History

The Heartbreakers is a renowned fastpitch softball organization that was founded in 1993 by Roy Taylor, Bill Harding, and Larry Bittinger. Initially starting with just one 14U team, the organization quickly gained recognition under the coaching of Terry Burdette, who took over the team after a year. Since then, the Heartbreakers have grown into a formidable force in the fastpitch softball world, participating in tournaments across the United States, from New England to California.

Terry Burdette, who currently coaches with Hood College, has been instrumental in the success of the Heartbreakers. Under his guidance, the program has flourished, and numerous girls have benefited from his efforts. Over 70 girls from the organization have gone on to play softball at the collegiate level, with 38 of them competing at Division I schools. Burdette’s coaching prowess is evident from his impressive record of nearly 700 wins, and the Heartbreakers have consistently achieved top rankings in prestigious tournaments such as ASA Nationals and Pony Nationals, finishing in the top 10 on seven occasions. In the 2000 Pony Nationals, the Heartbreakers secured an impressive second-place finish.

Over the years, the Heartbreakers program has expanded, and it now includes teams in various age groups. As of the 2023 season, the organization fields teams in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U age categories. These teams participate in tournaments throughout the summer season, with their schedule commencing from Memorial Day and culminating in a national tournament held in late July or early August. By participating in these tournaments, the Heartbreakers aim to provide their players with valuable exposure to college coaches while also emphasizing the importance of enjoying the sport.

The Heartbreakers organization is committed to creating a competitive and enjoyable environment for young softball players. They strive to help these players pursue their passion for the sport while also opening doors to potential college opportunities. Through the dedication of its founders, coaches, and players, the Heartbreakers continue to make a significant impact on the fastpitch softball community, empowering young athletes and shaping their futures in the sport.
